Meeting Needs has agreed the funding of fresh food to struggling families for six months in Aldershot by partnering again with the UK charity Community Grub Hub on a project that delivers nutritious, fresh, healthy food to children living in families who are struggling financially to make sure those children are well nourished and do not go hungry. The budget for the project is just £5000 and is the second time Meeting Needs has supported them. The Community Grub Hub is a registered Community Interest Company, set up in the heart of Aldershot to help residents of Rushmoor.
Every week Community Grub Hub distributes between 1.5 and 1.7 tonnes of food to around 240 families. This food is made up of supermarket donations (food that would otherwise go to landfill) from Fareshare https://fareshare.org.uk and this is topped up by donations from the general public and food Community Grub Hub buys. Fareshare collects food from numerous food businesses and redelivers this to charities at a current cost of £192 a week for around 0.4 tonnes of food a week. They provide most of the fresh and frozen food.
Meeting Needs outgoing treasurer Brian Kirsch said: “There can be little more important for us to do than to deliver good food to children who cannot rely on the regular supply of nutrition. We are delighted to partner with Community Grub Hub to fill that need.”
