The event industry´s foundation, Meeting Needs, has agreed to help fund a four-week water sports programme culminating in a regatta on Bristol Harbour, for 120 young people aged 11-14 from 10 schools across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Bath & North East Somerset.
At least 30 participants will be young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Sponsorship of the application for the grant came from Bristol-based ZiaBia – a Meeting Needs foundation partner. The grant will support their Inclusive School Games programme, All Aboard Watersports flagship youth project, which has been running since 2014. All Aboard Watersports is a water sports charity that provides a wide range of water-based activities for the whole community – where everyone is welcome, everyone belongs.
Accessibility is at the heart of activities. We offer sailing, paddle sports, rowing, swimming and powerboating to everyone, regardless of age, infirmity, disablement, culture, social and economic circumstances or financial hardship.
The Meeting Needs grant of £5000 will pay more than half the costs of the project which will take place in 2027.
