Event industry foundation Meeting Needs has agreed a sponsorship package with UK charity Community Grub Hub in Aldershot to feed around 80 UK families a week for the next 6 months. Community Grub Hub was introduced to Meeting Needs by Noella Milas, Director at Blue Line events, who volunteers at the charity.

The food will be purchased from Fareshare, the charity that distributes food that is nearly out of date to the needy, at a cost of £186 per week.  All Fareshare food would otherwise go to landfill so there are also huge environmental savings (circa 500kg of food a week).

Community Grub Hub includes a foodbank and more recently added an Advice Hub, providing expert advice in housing, budgeting, mental health and benefits. This additional support aims to reduce the dependency of clients on CGH.

Community Grub Hub currently has around 2000 families registered to receive assistance and on average they see around 240 families a week, with each family receiving on average 7 kg of food per week.

Meeting Needs vice chair Lene Corgan said: “Every week CGH distributes 1.5 tonnes of food for a total cost of £411 or an average cost for 7kg of food per person of £1.70. They do a wonderful job of feeding needy families at a minimal cost and we are delighted to support them for the next six weeks with a total of £4,836.”
