Event industry charity Meeting Needs starts its 21st year in great shape, thanks to a huge fund-raising effort by SITE GB and support from other industry organisations

SITE´s biggest ever Christmas lunch raised £26,160 to boost the charity´s coffers at a critical time of year and the income has enabled a number of funding projects to be agreed last week. But other fund-raisers from industry organisations pushed the total revenue to more than £34,000.

Meeting Needs chair Chris Parnham said: “We are so grateful to the industry for supporting us. SITE GB, ABPCO, Greengage, Beam, Micebook Expo and Onyria all supported us over the past month with their fund-raising and enabled us to make donations to finance wonderful projects.

“Overall, we are now back to pre-Covid levels of fund-raising and this is testimony to the generosity of the industry contributing to life-changing projects.”

This month Meeting Needs has made grants to the following projects:

  • Tushinde Childrens Trust – keeping vulnerable children off the streets of Nairobi, Kenya and providing education in supportive surroundings
  • Village Africa – funding the running costs for a mountain ambulance service for six months in Tanzania. The service provides the only way for people to access emergency medical treatment – an average of 50-80 emergency cases a year
  • The Snowdrop ProjectTo support Snowdrop’s trauma-informed counselling programme in the UK.
  • Together we learnThe project will build three new classrooms for 120 pre-school children, aged 5-6 in a peri-urban community in Ethiopia. As well as building the classrooms, it will also provide age-appropriate learning materials.
