Meeting Needs has committed to fund a 12-month vocational training programme with business management in tailoring, weaving, welding, tiling and hairdressing for 20 young women in Ghana.
The project is put together by UK-based charity Amplified Action and will be delivered by Advocacy for Social Inclusion and Girls Education (ASIGE), based in the north eastern region of Ghana, in Bolgatanga, at a cost of only £4495.
ASIGE has a mission is to improve the quality of life for women and adolescent girls through sustainable skills development and financial diversification. The aim of this project is to provide a sustainable income for the 20 young ladies, to enable them to lead an independent life financially while learning about equal rights and opportunities for young women.
Meeting Needs Vice Chair Lene Corgan said: “We try to ensure all the projects we fund are sustainable and life-changing and this certainly falls in those categories. The idea that we can help provide a life-long income opportunity for these young women at such a modest cost is hugely gratifying”.
