Meeting Needs delivers safety and study to Tanzanian students

Event industry foundation Meeting Needs will install 40 sets of bunk beds at Kwaang’w Secondary School in the Babati district in Tanzania for the start of the new school year next month. This will allow 80 female students to remain at school during the week with the aim of improving learning conditions and increasing personal protection. This is because the youngsters currently face long walks to and from school, facing dangers en route including wild animals.

The grant of just £4,650 to Mikuyu Tanzania (previously the Livingstone Trust) is the fourth by Meeting Needs in recent years and has previously included installing bunk beds in other schools in Tanzania.  Founder of Mikuyu Tanzania Julian Page said: “We have previously installed bunk beds in dormitories in other schools and the impact has been remarkable. Academic performances improved over the past two years at Sigino Secondary School where 45 per cent of students achieved top two grades in 2024 compared with 26 per cent in 2023.”

Meeting Needs chair Lene Corgan said: “This project we are funding provides safety for the young girls and enables them to spend more valuable time studying. It also helps the local economy as all the furniture and equipment will be sourced from local craftsmen and we are delighted to partner with Mikuyu. The value for money delivered from this project is extraordinary.”
