Edgar’s Gift was “incredibly grateful” to receive a grant of £5,000 from Meeting Needs last June. Edgar’s Gift is a charity that operates in the East Midlands of England that provides gifts, holidays and experiences to young adults suffering with cancer to improve their lives.

Founded and run by family and friends of Ben Edkins, who died of cancer in 2010, it is an entirely volunteer-run organisation so that all funds raised by the charity go to young cancer patients. The charity has mostly used the cash donation from Meeting Needs to buy gifts strongly desired by 13 young patients aged 18-30 and the following have been delivered already:

  • Cash contribution towards a trip to Disneyland Paris for one person from Warwickshire
  • Apple headphones for Lewis
  • A slide, air fryer and paddling pool with pump for Amy from Nuneaton
  • A Coach tabby handbag for Brittany from Atherstone
  • Garden seating and a BBQ for Kirsty from Atherstone
  • Lenovo tablet for Sarah from Nuneaton
  • Samsung tablet for Becky from Nuneaton
  • Apple headphones for person from Bulkington
  • John Lewis vouchers for Michael from Market Harborough

Meeting Needs chair Lene Corgan said: “It is such a simple thing to deliver a gift to someone who is struggling with their health to give them a lift. We were delighted to help Edgar´s Gift cheer a group of young patients in this way.”
