Event industry foundation Meeting Needs has supported Surrey-based charity ‘Us in a Bus’ with a donation of £5000 to continue their work with 122 of the most socially isolated individuals in the county in 2026.

‘Us in a bus’ works to reduce loneliness and to improve the quality of life for people with profound learning disabilities and complex needs. Fundraising and Events Manager Trina Pearse said: “They find communicating and connecting with others and the world around them a significant challenge so ‘Us in a bus’ staff work with people we support in their care setting, and hour-long sessions focus on developing communication, sociability and providing fun opportunities for growth and connection.

“The sessions we deliver throughout Surrey use techniques including Intensive Interaction, which builds social connections and relationships. Our aim with each person is to increase their confidence willingness to engage with others by creating opportunities for them to connect fully express themselves.”

“The people we support will never get better; they will never learn to speak or to signal they need medication and we know that for some of them the hour we spend with them each week is the only hour that someone focuses on them 1-to-1, or the only time that someone takes time to understand how they are feeling.”
