Event industry foundation Meeting Needs has paid £1000 for school bags and equipment for 30 pupils at Sa Pa school in Vietnam.
The school was founded by Christina Drakou who launched one of the event industry´s first destination management companies when she created Drakos DMC in Cyprus in 1982 and the gift from Meeting Needs continues the project that Christina launched 15 years ago after she visited as a photographer.
Sa Pa school in Vietnam opened only last month. Christina said: “It is truly wonderful that you are planning to support our project in Vietnam. The school has been running since August, and now is the perfect moment to provide our students with school bags filled with supplies to start their year in the best possible way.”
Her son, Orestis, took over the running of the DMC business in 2016 while Christina concentrates on her love of art and her philanthropic activities. These include “Free Hands” for the last 12 years in Limassol, Cyprus, where teachers are paid to help poor children with their homework in an afternoon school.
She added: “Remember what Victor Hugo wrote: “Whoever opens a school, closes a prison…”
